**Long Distance Ride in Donard: In aid of Ataxia research. A Charity 100km Challenge will take place on 11th may 2008 at Moat Farm, Donard, Co. Wicklow. The 100km relay challenge event will be open to members of the ILDRA (Irish Long Distance Riding Association) and also to non members.
All funds raised from the entry fee of €30 per rider will go to a very worthy charity and will help to fund Ataxia research. Ataxia is a debilitating condition which causes progressive damage to the nervous system with symptoms including lack of balance and co ordination and muscle weakness. The cause will be very close to the heart of organiser, Dr. Mary Kearney, whose two daughters suffer with Friedrichs Ataxia.
The Donard challenge will be a team event with 5 combinations per team riding together at a speed of 12kph. If competitors finish faster than this they will be penalised, where as competitors closest to this speed will receive extra points. The competition will start at 9am with the vetting stage. The competition will be run under ILDRA parameters with ILDRA members present on the day to lend a hand to riders
