Jump For Goal

Jump For Goal 2006

What was it?

The ‘Jump for Goal’ league was a series of three shows hosted by Greenhills Riding Club over 3 Sundays in January 2006.

Why?

We decided to run the league in order to bring our members together and give something back to the community

The League Itself

The league was not run under AIRC rules. It was open to horse & ponies, childern and adults alike. The league was a great success and we had at least 100 entries at each event. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of people. Chris & Gwen Byrne, proprietors of Ciolog EC where the event took place, provided the use of their facilities and venue free of charge. This was incredibly generous and made a huge difference to our final figure. Our final total came to an amazing €10,000 euros of which we are extremely proud. We also managed to raise a fantastic 3000 euros for the childrens aids hospice in Liberia.

The Presentation

On the 21st February we held a presentation in the Johnstown Inn which included refreshments sponsored by Mr. Bill O’Brien and a raffle sponsored by Shay Hesnan of Doddergrove Limited with prizes such as washing machines and a DVD video.Lisa O’Shea of Goal arrived, fresh off the plane from Calcutta, to receive the cheque. Lisa gave a fantastic talk to us on the work that she has been involved in over in Calcutta and explained the sheer poverty that children are barely surviving in. She told us that ‘No child deserves to live like that’. It was amazing to hear from Lisa how the money that we raised can be used to improve the life of a child and provide a roof over their head for as little as €9 euro a day
